How does the See America arch poster use colour and composition?
A deep rust-brown arch fills the upper two thirds of the sheet, its two openings showing pale sky, while a sand-coloured slope cuts in from the right. Flat, unshaded colour blocks give the print a silkscreen look. The riders occupy a thin strip along the bottom, and the sky fades from deep blue to near white behind the arch.
Who made the See America arch poster?
Frank S. Nicholson designed it for the Works Progress Administration's Federal Art Project, and his signature sits at lower right. The Library of Congress dates the colour silkscreen between 1936 and 1939 and describes it as a poster for the United States Travel Bureau promoting tourism, with two cowboys by a desert rock formation.
