Questions about this print

How are the shapes and lettering styled in the Pueblos of the Southwest poster?

Every form is built from flat, unoutlined blocks of colour. Sunlit walls read as tan and ochre, shaded sides drop to dark red or near-black, and windows are tiny dark squares. The top line sits in small dark red serif capitals, while National Parks & Monuments is lettered in heavy, hand-drawn type across a pale band below the scene.

Is the Pueblos of the Southwest poster a WPA poster?

No. Dorothy Waugh, a National Park Service staff artist and landscape architect, designed it in 1935, and her name is lettered in the top left of the scene. The National Park Service lists it in her 1935 series of cultural resources posters and states she did not make her park posters while working for the WPA's Federal Art Project.

What does the Pueblos of the Southwest poster show?

Multi-storey adobe pueblo buildings in ochre, tan, dark red and black rise against a flat purple sky. A cactus, a wooden ladder and a painted clay pot stand in the foreground. The whole scene is built from flat blocks of colour, and a small U. S. Government Printing Office imprint sits under the bottom lettering.

Where can I find the Pueblos of the Southwest poster?

Here at Haus of Prints, as a giclée reproduction of Dorothy Waugh's 1935 design on archival matte paper in ten sizes: 5×7, 8×10, 11×14, 16×20, A3, 18×24, 20×25, 24×30, 24×36 and 32×40. Each print keeps the lettering 'Pueblos of the Southwest' above the scene and 'National Parks & Monuments' below.
