Questions about this print

What does the Trojan Santa Claus Sleigh Ride Card show?

It shows five children bundled in coloured winter coats riding a long wooden sled down a snowy hillside, with one boy slipping from the uphill rear at the right and a mitten in the air. Three turkeys walk near a split-rail fence and a brown dog runs alongside, past bare trees and a partly frozen stream.

Who published this Trojan Santa Claus advertising card?

The card carries lettering for Wm. H. Frear, promoting "Frear's Troy Bazaar" as Santa Claus' Headquarters. It reads "Buy your holiday goods of Wm. H. Frear, the Trojan Santa Claus, and save money." It is a Victorian-era chromolithograph trade card, printed to advertise the Troy, New York merchant.

What printing technique was used for the original card?

The original was a full-colour chromolithograph, a stone-based process that layered inks to build the pale beige and gray snow tones with accents of red, blue, green and brown. Our version is a modern giclée reproduction on archival matte paper, faithful to the original palette.

Is this an original antique card or a reproduction?

This is a giclée reproduction of a public-domain Victorian chromolithograph advertising card. You receive a fresh print on 230GSM archival matte paper, not the original card. It ships unframed, flat in a protective mailer or rolled in a protective tube, depending on size, ready for the frame of your choice.
