Questions about this print

What does this Louis Prang scene actually show?

It shows four winter birds in deep snow: a robin with an orange-red breast standing at lower left, two brown barred wrens, and a small grey-blue tit in flight at upper right. Snow-laden holly branches with icicles frame the scene, with a wooden fence and distant conifers behind.

Who was Louis Prang and what is this printing technique?

Louis Prang (1824-1909) was a Boston lithographer and publisher who produced chromolithographs (colour prints made by lithography) from 1866 until he sold his interest in his firm in 1897; he is often called the father of the American Christmas card. This design is a colour lithograph in a soft muted palette. Our version is a modern giclée reproduction of the public-domain artwork, printed on archival matte paper.

Is this an original antique print or a reproduction?

This is a giclée reproduction of a public-domain Prang chromolithograph, not an original nineteenth-century plate. It is printed to order on 230GSM archival matte paper so the muted colours and fine bird detail stay crisp. You receive an unframed print ready to frame at home.

What size works for a living room wall?

For a living room feature wall, choose 18×24 or 24×36 so the snow, holly and birds read clearly from across the room. Above a console or dresser, 16×20 or 20×25 sits nicely. Smaller sizes like 8×10 and 11×14 suit shelves and clustered gallery arrangements.
