Which scene from Dante's Inferno does this engraving show?
It illustrates Canto XXVI. From a rocky ledge, Dante and Virgil look down into the eighth ditch of the eighth circle, where the souls of fraudulent counsellors move hidden inside flames. It comes from Gustave Doré's illustrated edition of the Inferno, published in Paris in 1861.
