Finding the Right Poster Size

Choosing the right poster size can make or break your wall art setup. A print that is too small gets lost on the wall, while one that is too large can overwhelm a space. At Haus of Prints, we offer ten sizes ranging from 5x7 to 32x40 inches, all printed on premium 230 GSM archival matte paper for rich, lasting color. This guide will help you pick the perfect size for your room and wall.

Recommended Sizes by Room

Bedroom

Recommended: 16x20 to 24x30

Center the poster above your bed for a clean, balanced look, or place it on the wall opposite the bed so it is the first thing you see when you wake up. For nightstand areas, an 8x10 or 11x14 in a simple frame works well as a subtle accent.

Living Room

Recommended: 24x30 to 32x40

The living room is where you can go big. Hang a large-format print above the sofa or use it as the focal point on a feature wall. If your sofa is 72 inches wide, aim for a poster that covers roughly two-thirds of that width for proper visual balance.

Office or Study

Recommended: 8x10 to 18x24

Keep it focused. A mid-size print near your desk adds personality without distraction. Leaning a framed poster on a bookshelf is another clean option that does not require any wall mounting.

Hallway

Recommended: 11x14 to 16x24

Narrow spaces call for gallery wall arrangements. Mix two to four smaller prints in a vertical or grid layout. The tall 16x24 format works particularly well in hallways where wall width is limited.

Bathroom

Recommended: 8x10 to 11x14

Small prints add character to bathrooms. Keep them away from direct moisture sources like the shower area. A framed 8x10 or 11x14 on the wall opposite the mirror is a smart placement.

How to Measure Your Wall

  • Measure the wall width and height where you plan to hang the poster. Write it down before shopping so you can compare directly to our size chart above.
  • The poster should take up about 2/3 to 3/4 of the furniture width below it. For example, above a 60-inch dresser, a 24x36 print (36 inches wide in landscape) hits the sweet spot.
  • Leave 6 to 8 inches between the top of the furniture and the bottom of the poster. This creates visual breathing room without making the art feel disconnected.
  • For gallery walls, start with the largest piece in the center and work outward with smaller prints. Keep 2 to 3 inches of consistent spacing between frames.
  • Use painter's tape to mock up the size before ordering. Tape the outline of your chosen dimensions directly on the wall. Live with it for a day. This simple trick eliminates second-guessing.
